in Chapter 6 of The Feathered Tree, Polly visits the Barton Police Station in the hope that the police will be able to help her get to the bottom of how and why Tree was cut down.
This is the only Chapter in the book written from a perspective other than Polly’s own. I wrote it this way in order for readers to get a more objective opinion of what Polly actually looks like. Polly’s own opinion of her looks is not very positive. Her Gran and Quinn obviously have biased viewpoints. Constable Moss, on the other hand, doesn’t know her, and therefore has a reasonable chance of looking at her without any prejudice.
Often, when introducing their main character, writers will either describe them in the narrative – meaning from the point of view of the writer, or they will find some way of including a description by having the characters look in a mirror or see their reflection in water or a shop window, or having a friend or relative comment on their appearance. I thought Samantha Moss’s opinion was worth knowing.
As for the t-shirt, here’s a photograph of it – and it’s so obviously a hare!
